Hello Fellow Primals!

T the season and all that!

Much news including a much needed showcase in New York on November 17, 7pm at The Delancey in which we invite our mob of fans In that great City to the gathering!

It has come to our attention that many of you are truly looking forward to new material, someone mentioned Psychedelic Blues, when in fact we have explored that facet of blues many times, however the truth to Primal Static is to continue to expand for our meaning of “Static” stems from electricity not from anything standing still. Which brings us to the meaning of our name, which a few have asked. Well the Primal part is actually attached to the Static aspect for deep within us is this antennae which reaches out to the Universe (=One Song-One Verse) and even though “society” in its most drab state would like to prune this off, but alas to us Primals it hasn’t. This need for oneness, this electricity to attach ourselves to the Primal that is always awakened when we sleep. There is also the power of 2 in this band Primal to Static, Man to Woman, Earth to Sky, yet within all this is the Primal Blues awakened in the 21st century churned out with electronic beats, for that is the beat of the day, computer et a. Within this machine is a scream, an urge to go back yet forward within the realms of consciousness and which a wise man once said “Where there is love, there is no need for power.” So with that statement we open the wings to this newness and ask you to come along.

Soon to see you… New York, London, where ever we are needed we shall be.

Greg and HouFei

Dear FRIENDS!

Its been quite a while since creatures roamed this globe and followed the stars to bring fire to life which in turn lit art in their souls. The drum beat, then in turn the singing of angels. Man slept, ate and wept life and in turn told stories through song. That is Primal Static, that yearning deep within all of our souls to reach out and share stories through tones and song. WE no longer use horses to travel, nor other means of communication, so through the use of computers, electric guitar and so on we set our course to change this blinded world from chaos. Chaos is essential but after the spinning top wears itself a new beginning returns, out of old life a new one. This Primal feeling essentially rooted in Blues sparks our lives more than ever before. We tend to forget this as we go forward in life and are inundated with laws, greed, false teachers who presume we are fetal idiots who need to be kept in cages. This is not our calling nor our destiny. We love the primacy of life, hence the static which endures. As long as the heart beats on it’s own accord, the essence of humanity shall. Please join us and make a difference. These tones are as ancient as the water that seethes through the endless rain which keeps us from drowning, with its essence. Time has healed before and it shall again. Time, beats and tones. We thank you forever.

Yours Truly,

We all dream as dreamers do. The web of life appears so taut right now with derision around the world but all is not left to chaos. Form comes from chaos and out of it springs life. This time round perhaps we will all get it right.

We want to thank all of you who have helped us achieve this music in all its splendor, whether directly or indirectly. We are unraveling our skin as it were, as the moon does each month. To those who understand the ever evolving door of Primal Static and what is actually meant by those words and name. To those that try to listen to it all and to never brand us as this or that. To those of you, who actually buy our material instead of just saying it, thanks.

We believe this music will last way beyond our time on this earth, so that is really everything. To put out something one believes in and see it treated well is all that an artist can really ask. We have been at this for quite a while and it seems we have a strong fan base which makes it all worth while. For us it’s the message in the music. One wonders “Are these lyrics listened to?” “Are we getting through, or are we miles away?” This music is meant to uplift. We hardly ever hear that these days. It’s either a whiny singer feeling sorry for their selves or just boring music. So instead of feeling horrible we give a change to the “scene” by offering up something we feel is really extraordinary. We are lifelong dedicated musicians. Nothing we receive and play is accidental, we play from the heart and hopefully it touches a nerve; man we just give it to you all or none, that’s what you want right? Music needs to be spun from the soul. We hear you in your emails and comments and your discontent with music these days. We promise the soul of blues is pumping in our music as it will forever because it is the people’s music and shall last forever. Our concern is to spread the message of truth through music played from the heart and soul, not some dismal crass commercialized garbage. This is a train, as in A Little Pain, that won’t and can’t stop. Our number one priority is to play for you live now, so we can communicate with you and feel the electricity going both ways. A vital audience gives breath to the music and you are vital to us! As we travel we hope to meet everyone of you, so make yourselves known to us.

Best,

A

You hear a lot of bands talk about how they are trying to break the mold of the music industry and are providing listeners with music that is really something unique and different. But how many of them are actually doing what they say? Listening to Primal Static’s The Curtain Of Many Faces, the duo of Greg Thuman and HouFei Yang create songs that combine blues-rock and trance dance beats and give you something completely different with each track on the album. It’s blues guitar-meets-Fruit Loops, and if you were on the hunt for something new, look no further than Primal Static.

“Love Drone” gives you a taste of the blues, yet the very next track, “Dream Arabic,” really shows off what Thuman does with his sound manipulation talents. It is like an electro-jam where the guitar provides an infectious melody, and the beats hold the song down and your interest as well. Songs like “Shelter” provide blues vocals over guitar swells, a mandolin solo and sweet beats really showing off what Primal Static is about. It’s a trippy combination any band has yet to make, which is what makes Thuman and Yang true innovators in the music world.

Thuman leads Primal Static with his raw vocals, blues guitar and love of dance beats, while Yang accompanies him on keyboard and bass. Yang, who lived in China until she came to the U.S. at age 18, is a classically trained pianist who shows off her skills on “Enimia,” where the piano creates the bass line for the song. Thuman and Yang stick to anything but a classical approach to things. They have a novel method of creating new music with their combination of sounds that makes them stand out from any other band in the music scene today. Each track on The Curtain Of Many Faces stands out for the sheer fact each one is different from the next making the album one that should stand out in the indie music world.

In A Word: Innovative

http://www.thisisbooksmusic.com/?s=primal+static

“Primal Static are a duo and proud, and by removing what you expect to hear, you focus on what is there. What is there is a nice group that show equal love for pop craftsmanship, punk rock, and an independent spirit that can be heard in the freedom expressed through the two. “Wailer” could be a really twisted blues if Billy Corgan was on ludes, while “Waking Shadows” could be the anthem for the next end-of-the-world event. What I also found unique was that the two members (Greg Thuman is white, Houfei Yang is Chinese) bring in various culture references, or at least allow Yang to include hers to where she’s not just “the alterna- trendly female bassist, and oh, I’m Chinese too”, she brings in elements of who makes her who she is and makes it rock, maybe something that wouldn’t be possible in her homeland (at least not just yet). This is made clear in songs like “Love Drone”, which is a song filled with distorted guitar and bass drones, only interrupted by drums and an agonizing vocal from Thuman that sounds brutal because the stoner metal-pace of the song makes it feel more painful.

Obvious White Stripes comparisons will come up but are completely unnecessary, for this is Primal Static making Primal Static music with their own level of intensity and brilliance. With luck, 2010 will be their year to be even more brillianter. Yes, I realize there isn’t such a word, but I made it up just for them. Thanks.” ~This Is Book’s Music

The duo of Greg Thuman (composer, singer, guitar) and HouFei Yang (keyboard, bass) offer up a ten track work touching off on everything from acid blues, Stooges, dreamy emotion, exotic garage, and elsewhere trance.
